Glossary
Aspect ratio
The ratio of the tire's sidewall height to its section width, expressed as a percentage. In 295/75R22.5, the "75" means the sidewall height is 75% of the 295 mm section width.
Use the aspect ratio to estimate sidewall height relative to section width, then confirm overall diameter from manufacturer data before substituting sizes.
Real-World Use
A fleet comparing 11R22.5 (no explicit aspect ratio) and 295/75R22.5 uses the aspect ratio to understand why the metric tire is shorter overall despite a wider section width.
