Casing credit

Last reviewed: 2026-05-20

A monetary credit a retreader or tire supplier applies toward a purchase in exchange for a returned casing that passes inspection. The credit amount depends on casing brand, age, repair history, prior retread count, sidewall condition, bead condition, and whether the casing meets the retreader's acceptance standards.

A casing run to failure, operated severely underinflated, damaged by heat separation, or removed with exposed structural damage typically has little or no credit value. Timely removal at the fleet pull depth protects both safety margin and future casing value.

Real-World Use

A fleet tracking casing credits by axle position finds that trailer casings return fewer accepted casings than drive casings. The tire records point to chronic trailer underinflation, so the fleet shortens trailer inspection intervals and adds inside-dual pressure checks before dispatch.
