TPMS
Tire Pressure Monitoring System — an electronic system that monitors tire pressure in real time and alerts the driver when pressure drops below a defined threshold.
TPMS alerts supplement but do not replace regular manual pressure checks. A TPMS may not immediately detect a slow leak or may have a threshold that allows significant underinflation before alerting.
Real-World Use
A driver receiving a TPMS low-pressure alert on a trailer tire treats it as a confirmed inspection trigger — investigating the specific tire with a manual gauge rather than assuming the alert is false or minor.
