Valve stem

The inflation fitting through which a tubeless tire is filled, checked, and sealed. A commercial valve assembly includes the stem, valve core, cap, and the sealing area at the wheel. Valve problems are a common source of slow pressure loss because they can leak without leaving an obvious puncture in the tread.

Check valve stems, cores, extensions, and caps during every inspection. Replace missing caps immediately and investigate any valve that shows moisture, hissing, corrosion, movement, or inconsistent gauge readings. Inside dual valve access should be verified because hard-to-reach stems often get skipped.

Real-World Use

A technician investigating repeated pressure loss in one drive tire finds a degraded rubber base at the valve stem where it meets the wheel rim. The tire had been aired up twice without fixing the leak; replacing the valve assembly stops the pressure loss.
